Recently, I have had so many women ask me the same question. How do I cover my dark circles and avoid makeup sitting in the creases around my eyes?
This is especially an issue for women as we get older. We don’t want to look caked in makeup, and we would also like products that really work that still look natural. My advice is to start with your skin. Using a good eye cream ensures that the area is prepped before applying makeup. This is true for your whole face. If your skin isn’t clean, exfoliated and moisturised, your makeup will lack staying power and can go patchy.
There isn’t one holy grail of under eye concealer that works for everyone. However, in my many years of experience, and also dealing with my own ageing skin, I have found a couple of products that I really like, which also are making my clients happy. Personally, I also don’t like to use powder on myself under my eyes, so I love a product that sets. Estée Lauder’s Double Wear foundation is brilliant without powder. I use it only where I want to cover, under eyes, around nose etc, as I don’t want such full coverage for my whole face. It can also be layered to give extra coverage, and I have found that if you keep your face still for a few seconds for it to set, it doesn’t sit in the lines.
Another product that I love is Mac Pro Longwear Concealer which has fantastic coverage and it sets nicely. If you prefer to set your under eye area with powder, then I highly recommend Laura Mercier Secret Under Eye Brightening Powder, and only use a tiny amount. This is a good idea for brides and I always use it on them as it really ensures the under eye area stays perfect all day.
